Vanity Metrics

Sunday, the 29th of March 2026. Um, I've been having a pretty good day, if I'm being honest, a little bit behind on engagement, uh, sending, you know, reply, getting back to people's messages. Um, to be honest, getting behind is something that uh, I'm pretty much used to.
I can't lie, like, you know, falling behind on certain tasks is something that I'm becoming used to, because it's very natural, considering the fact I have a wide array of different things that I need to do.
But, um, one of the most amusing aspects of today, I suppose, is, um, you know, getting a follow and that normally, I would like to think that, um, there is something that I'm doing within my engagement process that is causing somebody to follow me, to be fair, I did actually get a, uh, a follow from a real person on Instagram, which is actually nice.
But at the same time, I also got a follow from a fake person, again, somebody who's trying to scam me for my money and it's always interesting.
They're always the same suspects. They always look the same and it's just funny to think that these grifters still exist. Clearly, the scam must be profitable in a way.
Where essentially like, I don't know, they've got a very, very weird, strange name. Um, from a very, um, I want to say random country, I suppose, or it's a very, it's a very weird name, and then, you know, the picture, sorry, you know, the, the, all the feeds, you know, the retire Instagram feed is filled with like, you know, get this many followers, get this many streams, get this many, whatever.
And I'm thinking really and truthfully, what does that even mean?
Followers in streams. Like, what does that equate to if I'm being honest? like it really doesn't do anything for me.
This is something that I've always, um, you know, after a while, uh, to be fair, I've begun, you know, I started learning that these things really don't matter. More followers don't matter, matter. More streams don't matter.
More views don't matter. Like these are just, you know, vanity metrics that make would make me feel good and it only makes me feel good for a while.
It's very hard to get, you know, to get hyped up by vanity metrics, want to have real problems that I want my music career to actually deal with.
And when I see those problems not being dealt with, it's a lot E becomes very, very hard for me to be impressed by having a bunch of followers that, you know, who that are all probably bots and, you know, I can't really engage with. I can't market my music to them. I can't sell them anything because they don't really give a damn about what it is that I have to offer.
