The Price of Laziness

Oct 10
2 min read

Saturday the 3rd of October 2026. And at the moment I'm thinking about the price of laziness. I do want to also take the opportunity to juxtaposition laziness with the word rest, and really begin to characterise the distinction between the two.

As I'm doing this, I also want to begin to, I suppose, um, explore the idea of exactly what it is that laziness provides me. What is it that I benefit from being lazy? Because you see, when I think about being lazy, I don't think about resting.

When I think about being lazy, I think about effectively, you know, prolonging, right? The process of something that is supposed to be done or procrastinating from the process of something that needs to be done. So in other words, it's almost like debt and getting into debt, right?

Effectively buying something or spending money that I presently don't have, right? So with laziness, I'm thinking about like, you know, effectively borrowing time or taking time that I don't have or effectively misallocating time that is supposed to be used for a specific task. So, with that being said, I'm really wondering, what is it exactly that benefits me?

What is it that laziness exactly provides me with? Because if I think about laziness, if it is true to a certain extent, that laziness effectively just, um, effectively tries to borrow time or tries to, uh, again, uh, you know, misallocate time that is supposed to be used for a specific task or in other words, procrastination.

Then I suppose the, what is actually happening then, I'm effectively subscribing myself to a future that is going to be more challenging and more difficult because I now have less time to do something that is actually necessary, which is going to rob me of my rest.

A lot of my life is centred and grounded by the objective of being able to rest, that is fundamentally one of the benefits that I recognise from life.

And I fear that laziness is something that robs me of my rest. Sure, laziness may give me temporary rest now, but because I am, you know, effectively procrastinating or moving the needle when it comes to a specific task that I need to get done, what I am actually doing is effectively robbing myself of rest in the future.

So, that's essentially my perspective on that.
