The Crutch Of Being Your Own Boss

Wednesday 7th of May 2025. One of the most challenging things about being a music entrepreneur, being an entrepreneur in general anyway, is that you are your own boss. In the same way that being your own boss kind of like sounds exciting because it sounds like you

are in control of your own life. The very crutch to that statement is that you are in control of your own life. That means that whatever issues, whatever kind of disadvantages, whatever kind of weaknesses that you have that are effectively absorbed by a company. Let's say for example if somebody was kind of like your own boss because that's the thing about you know kind of like being employed that nobody talks about when

it comes to benefits your boss effectively absorbs all of your weaknesses like you know if you're underperforming your boss or your employer or the company absorbs that and basically takes the risk of hiring you uh you know whereas you know if you are your own boss you are at the mercy of hiring you. Whereas if you are your own boss, you are at the mercy of your own weaknesses, you're at the mercy of your own willingness or unwillingness to work and that is all going to have an impact on your results. And so, bringing that in and tying that in to becoming a music entrepreneur, in context of being a music entrepreneur, right?

One of the, not scariest, but one of the most challenging things I've had to overcome in the beginning and I'm still in the process of overcoming, is looking for things and finding reasons to number one keeping myself busy but more specifically kind of like giving myself productive work to do. So in a sense, I am giving myself tasks. And again, not just for the sake of keeping myself busy. So, you know, I'm not just kind of like opening folders,

opening files, typing random things into place. No, like I'm effectively kind of like conceptualizing projects, conceptualizing things, tangible things that I know I'm actually going to use and I'm actually going to present to the world, whether it's a music video, whether it's a website, whether it is a project, anything at

all to kind of like keep myself busy because essentially like you know I have goals. Those goals you know are going to be financial again unfortunately for any music entrepreneur like you know becoming financially successful in the business is a goal because you know often at times what people will often complain about is that music doesn't pay that much which is why they're having to do other things and other things that they do take up time in kind of like

getting you know takes time away from them wanting to do music however at the and the other things that they do take up time in kind of like getting, takes time away from them wanting to do music. However, at the same time, they're not willing to do the things that will pay them so that they can effectively do music more often, which sounds really fun.

But yeah, so becoming financially successful in context of kind of like what one is trying to accomplish, like that is important. And also actualizing oneself creatively is also important. But yeah, effectively, like, you know, one of the greatest challenges that I face

and have been facing is learning how to keep myself busy and learning how to create a sense of direction that allows me to move forward in my music career as an entrepreneur.
